After we had tested 15 objects to determine which would sink and which would float, I gave the students each a piece of wood. They discovered that when they put the wood in the water, it would sink. I challenged the students to figure out how to make it sink. I gave each table a pile of paperclips and rubber bands. The students in KM were very creative in their attempts to make the wood sink. Once the first student figured out that in order to make it sink they would have to wrap a rubber band around the wood and tuck lots of paper clips underneath, the other students quickly caught on.
