Sky Deck Chicago! I'm scared out of my mind!!!
My mom and me on Navy Pier

Hey Ms. Miller! Let's take a picture!

"I love my dad! I bet I will see him again!"
"Ms. Miller likes a rainbow!"

"Hey Ms. Miller! Let's take a picture just you and me!"
"Let's put bugs and frogs on our head and pretend we are scared and you take our picture!"

Weighing, Sorting, and Subtracting...oh my!

Who has the heavier side? Can you draw a picture to match what you see?

Once the jelly beans were sorted, students had to graph their results and then answer questions about their bag of jelly beans (most, least, favorite color, and complete number sentences using their results).

Introducing subtraction in kindergarten using dice

Santa Claus in Kindergarten?

No it's not Santa! We just had cupcakes for snack! :-)

You brought what for show and tell???????

You know you live in Wyoming cattle ranching country when this comes for show and tell!  Yup! You guessed it! It's a bone from a cow.  Hadn't seen that one for show and tell before!  LOL!

2 and 3 Dimensional Shapes with Marshmallows

In math centers, students in KM built two and three dimensional shapes out of marshmallows.  Once they had created 5 2D shapes, they made 4 3D shapes.  It was really a light bulb moment for some students and allowed them to finally understand the difference between 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional shapes.

Pie the Principal!

For every 100 minutes kindergarten students earned a ticket.  Here are our two lucky students throwing pies at our principal!  What a fun mess!
Our principal and music teacher after the last pie was thrown!

Dress Like Your Favorite Book Character Day!

This is what happens when 5 kindergarten teachers get creative with their costumes!  I decided to dress up like Emily Elizabeth from the Clifford books.  Good thing I just happened to have a big red dog!

Green Eggs and Ham for Dr. Seuss' Birthday!

On March 1st, we celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday with our 4th grade buddies.  We tried Green Eggs and Ham and listened to our 4th grade buddies read us Dr. Seuss books!

How Can I Make It Sink?

After we had tested 15 objects to determine which would sink and which would float, I gave the students each a piece of wood.  They discovered that when they put the wood in the water, it would sink.  I challenged the students to figure out how to make it sink.  I gave each table a pile of paperclips and rubber bands.  The students in KM were very creative in their attempts to make the wood sink.  Once the first student figured out that in order to make it sink they would have to wrap a rubber band around the wood and tuck lots of paper clips underneath, the other students quickly caught on.

Adults Reading to Kindergarten

Amy Deeds, a nurse at Pinedale Medical Clinic, read us "Who Am I?" by Sherrilyn Henning.
Peg Carney, Special Education Director for  SCSD #1, read us "Duck, Duck, Goose" by Tad Hills.

Rusti Christensen, Powerschool and Network Administrator for SCSD #1 and Cayden's mom, read us "Antlers Forever" by Frances Bloxam.
Dave Lankford, Sublette County Sheriff, read us "The Doorbell Rang" by Pat Hutchins.

Mr. Lincoln Visits Kindergarten

The students really got into acting like Abraham Lincoln.  They listened to books about his life, compared their life to his, and wrote about what they would do if they were president.  When the hats were done, they walked around very straight and tall and did their best president impersonation.

More Royal Readers in Kindergarten

Dr. Barbara Leiseth read us "Bringing in the New Year" by Grace Lin.
Jami Anderson, from St. Andrew's in the Pines Episcopal Church read us "The Valentine Bears" by Eve Bunting.
Trey Wilkinson, from Tegeler Insurance, read us "The 100th Day of School" by Angela Shelf Medearis.

Nancy McDaniel, our county librarian, read us" Love Splat" by Rob Scotton and "Will You Be My Valenswine?" by Teresa Bateman and Kristina Stephenson.

100th Day of Kindergarten, Mardis Gras, and Lincoln's Birthday

This year, Mardi Gras, Lincoln's Birthday, and the 100th day of kindergarten all fell on the same day.  Students were given the opportunity to dress like they were 100 years old and the results were hilarious!  The students counted 100 objects with their 4th grade buddies, counted by 1s, 2s, 5s, 10s, and 20s, to 100, made a necklace with 100 cereal pieces, found a hidden message on a 100 board, and determined how many rolls of a dice it would take to reach 100.  Students also tried Kings cake and made Mardi Gras masks.  Wow! What a busy day in kindergarten but it was a lot of fun!!!! Watch for our Abraham Lincoln activities in a future post.

Chinese New Year

My students love learning about different cultures and holidays and Chinese New Year is no exception.  They learned that this was the year of the snake and figured out what year they were born in.  We worked with missing sounds in the animal names, learned about lucky money,  and read books about how different families celebrate Chinese New Year.  We made Chinese Dragons and had a dancing parade with another kindergarten class.  The end of our day capped off with fortune cookies.
